Coming this Summer!
July 21-23 & 28-30

The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.

Born and raised in La Crosse, Tracie Hodgdon returns to the area after almost 30 years of acting and directing in the Minneapolis and New York metro areas to direct Into the Woods. She returned to the area to finally complete her theatre degree at UW-L, a life-long goal, and this Mother’s Day, she will achieve that goal! Tracie is over the moon to be working at Appleseed on such a thrilling production and can’t wait to see what the community has to offer! In the Twin Cities she has been in productions at The History Theatre, The Jungle, The Dowling Lab at The Guthrie, and directed, taught, and was the education director for Northern Starz Performing Arts Center. In New York she studied with Eric Loeb, Susan Brown, and was a company member of the historic 13th Street Repertory Theatre where she performed in the 25th anniversary production of Line by Israel Horowitz. In 2007 she attended the Cabaret Conference at Yale University and upon returning founded the Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network, bringing together performers and musicians who are keeping the art of cabaret alive and well. She has two amazingly kind, brilliant kids who bring her endless joy and pride! Thank you to Appleseed for the warm welcome home
